In a remarkable demonstration of commitment to shaping the future of students, Twum Opoku Obed, founder of Purpose Publications (UK) and author of “Purpose: What I Wish I Knew Before Entering Tertiary”, participated in the 2024 New Juaben Old Students’ Homecoming, held from Friday, October 18th to Sunday, October 20th. Although not an alumnus of New Juaben Senior High School (NJUASCO), Twum Opoku Obed made a meaningful contribution by donating several copies of his book to the students.
The donation of these books came in response to a survey conducted by the Purpose team in select secondary schools across Ghana. The findings revealed that many students, while committed to their academic programs, were uncertain about their future career paths. Many students focused on continuing to tertiary education but lacked clarity on what they wanted to study or what careers they wished to pursue. This insight highlighted a significant need for mentorship and guidance to help students navigate their post-secondary choices.
Through the donation of Purpose, Twum Opoku Obed aimed to inspire students to think deeply about their purpose in life and build successful careers beyond the classroom. The book encourages young people to identify their passion and career goals early, so they can make informed decisions about their future.
The response from the students was overwhelmingly positive. Joan, the Library Prefect, expressed how the book would inspire her and her peers: “Receiving this book is a gift I never expected. It has opened my eyes to the importance of identifying my purpose early on. This book is going to help me not just in my studies but in making decisions that will shape my future.”
Similarly, the Head Boy Prefect shared his gratitude: “This book has sparked a new sense of direction in my life. It’s not just about passing exams anymore; it’s about understanding the deeper purpose of my journey. I am confident that the insights from this book will guide me and many others to make the right choices for our futures.”
In addition to the book donation, Twum Opoku Obed also partnered with the Lions Club to offer free medical screenings for students, further demonstrating his commitment to the holistic well-being of the youth.
The 2024 NJUASCO Homecoming was not just an opportunity for alumni to reconnect but also a platform to positively impact the lives of students. Twum Opoku Obed’s participation underscores the importance of investing in the next generation, ensuring they have both the resources and support to identify their purpose and build meaningful futures.
